1972 en allemagne. elle a étudié à l’académie des beaux-arts aki (enschede, pays-bas). elle vit et travaille depuis 1992 aux pays-bas. elle a récemment présenté une grande exposition personnelle au centre d’art tent à rotterdam (2014) et prépare pour septembre 2015 une grande exposition au stedelijk museum à hertogenbosch (pays-bas). l’oeuvre d’anne wenzel détourne la tradition céramiste pour réaliser sculptures et installations. elle s’intéresse à la perception des désastres (catastrophes naturelles, attentats, craintes millénaristes…) qu’elle considère comme une métaphore des peurs de tout un chacun. anne wenzel was born in germany in 1972. she studied at aki (enschede, netherlands). she lives and works in netherlands since 1992. her work has recently been exhibited at tent art center in rotterdam (2014) and will be exhibited in a big solo presentation in september 2015 at stedelijk museum in hertogenbosch (netherlands). anne wenzel’s work distorts the ceramic tradition in order to create sculptures and installations. she draws attention to tragedies perception (natural disasters, attacks, millenarian anxieties…) thought as everyone metaphoric fears. l’oeuvre damaged goods est une série de sculptures qui consiste en un ensemble de bustes monumentaux en grès noir émaillé. ces oeuvres s’inspirent des photos de soldats défigurés durant la première guerre mondiale : les gueules cassées. les visages et torses sont entaillés, creusés et comme fondus par l’émail de couleur qui les recouvre. après un long travail de modelage, l’artiste détruit et ravage la sculpture, ce qui renforce l’éloquence des parties intactes. ce procédé place également l’oeuvre dans un équilibre entre abstraction et figuration, tout en s’inscrivant dans la tradition de la sculpture classique. selon l’artiste, « un buste rend l’homme digne d’intérêt », et l’anonyme devient un individu, mais retourne dans le même temps à l’anonymat par l’absence de visage. « damaged goods » is a series of sculptures which consists of a set of monumental busts in black enamelled stoneware, inspired by the maimed faces of soldiers wounded during the first world war. the faces and torsos are slashed and gouged by the coloured enamel applied on the surface. after a long process of modelling, the artist then ravages and destroys the resulting sculpture, making the parts that are left even more eloquent. this process also balances the work between abstraction and figuration, while placing it within the tradition of classical sculpture. as the artist explains, « a bust makes man worthy 1953. elle vit et travaille à paris. issue de l’ecole supérieure des beaux-arts de marseille, anita molinero compose, pendant ses années punk, ses premières sculptures en faisant se rencontrer des objets et des matériaux de récupération. elle choisit ensuite d’apporter aux formes la puissance de l’irréversibilité du geste et pour cela adopte le plastique et une série de matériaux toxiques qu’elle coupe, brûle, lacère et sculpte.sa démarche s’attache à la pérennité de ces matériaux dont on ne peut se débarrasser et veille toujours à arrêter son geste avant que la pièce ne verse dans molinero composed during her punk years her first sculptures, which made encounter salvaged objects and materials. further on, she decided to add to the shapes the power of an irreversible gesture for which she adopted plastic and a series of toxic materials that she cuts, burns, slashes and sculpts. her approach is based on sustainable materials that you cannot get rid of and always ensure to stop the gesture before the piece goes into a formless state. l’oeuvre oyonnax est une commune française aujourd’hui au centre de la plastics vallée, qui a été reconnue en 2005 comme pôle de compétitivité pour la plasturgie. anita molinero a choisi d’y produire une série qui a pris le nom de cette commune, dans une usine qui transforme le plastique. l’artiste a souhaité rendre équivalent et simultané le geste singulier de l’artiste et la trace du design industriel en déréglant le temps de production de l’objet (un séparateur de voie de couleur rouge). une fois sorti du moule, l’objet a été travaillé avec un compresseur d’air en gonflant certaines parties et en en déformant d’autres, tout en conservant des traces de l’industrie à d’autres endroits. oyonnax is a french city located at the center of the plastics vallée, which was recognized in 2005 as a competitiveness pole of plastics processing industry. anita molinero chose to produce there, in a factory that processes plastic a series of works that took the name of this city. the artist wanted to render equal and simultaneous the singular gesture of the artist and the trace of industrial design by upsetting the production time of the object (a traffic lane separator in red). after retrieving it from the cast, the object was worked with an air compressor to swell certain parts and to deform others, all at the same time
